For example, telegraph connections between countries required separate agreements for each link, leading to delays, inefficiency, and frequent miscommunication.

In the ITU, major telecom operators, regulators, academic institutions, and countries work together to establish the rules and protocols that ensure seamless global communication—from standardized country codes to technical protocols that make roaming and internet access reliable everywhere.
